Apartment in the Heart of the Northern Quarter Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Apartment in the Heart of the Northern Quarter, you immediately get that “I’m in the right place” feeling. Cross Keys Street sits right in the thick of Manchester’s most creative neighborhood, and honestly, the location alone makes this three-star property punch above its weight. The building itself has that industrial-meets-modern vibe that the Northern Quarter does so well — you know you’re somewhere with character before you even step inside.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying in the Northern Quarter — you’re basically in Manchester’s cultural heartbeat. I mean, you can walk to Afflecks Palace in about two minutes, and the vintage shops, independent cafes, and street art are literally on your doorstep. What couples particularly love (and I get why they rated it 8.2) is that you can easily stroll to the main shopping areas, catch a show at the Royal Exchange Theatre, or grab dinner at one of those hidden gem restaurants tucked away in the side streets. The tram stops are close enough that getting around the city is actually pretty straightforward, but honestly, you might find yourself just wandering the neighborhood instead.
The Apartment Experience
This isn’t your typical hotel setup — it’s an apartment, which means you get that “living like a local” experience rather than the standard hotel room routine. The space feels authentic to the area, with those high ceilings and big windows that let in plenty of light during the day. You’ve got your own kitchen, which is brilliant if you want to grab some ingredients from the Northern Quarter market and cook something up, or just make a proper cup of tea without those tiny hotel kettles. The furnishings strike that balance between comfortable and stylish without trying too hard.
Exploring from Your Doorstep
What I really appreciate about this spot is how it puts you right in the middle of everything without the tourist trap feeling. You can pop out for morning coffee at one of the independent roasters, spend the afternoon browsing through record shops and vintage stores, then grab pre-dinner drinks at a proper Manchester pub. The Northern Quarter has this energy that’s hard to describe — it’s artsy but not pretentious, busy but not overwhelming. Plus, if you want to venture out to other parts of Manchester, you’re well-positioned to do so.
Why Guests Love It
The location score of 8.8 really tells the story here — you’re getting exceptional positioning in one of Manchester’s most sought-after neighborhoods at a three-star price point. Couples especially seem to love the combination of having their own space while being surrounded by all the Northern Quarter has to offer. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing the real Manchester rather than just visiting it. The apartment setup gives you flexibility that standard hotels can’t match, and when you step outside, you’re immediately part of one of the UK’s most vibrant creative communities.
Hotel in Manchester reservations spike before derby day when supporters fill city-centre suites.

This apartment is unbelievable value, so much more than you'd expect for the price! Lisa was brilliant at check in, highly recommended for a stay in Manchester

Stayed here a couple of times so knew what to expect. It's right at the edge of the northern quarter and close to all the bars we like. There's loads of room, probably could sleep 6 singles or 10 couples. It's not the most luxurious apartment but it was cheap.

Shelagh from United Kingdom (8/10)
The location was really convenient for the AO arena which is where our event was held. Everything in the apartment was clean and tidy. Having a well-equipped kitchen was a bonus, and being near to shops. Warm and comfy bedroom. Excellent value for money and plenty of space for 2 people.
