The Alan Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Alan on Princess Street, you immediately get that feeling you’ve found something special. This four-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of Manchester‘s city center, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — couples especially seem to love it here, rating the spot a solid 9.4. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels distinctly Manchester, not trying too hard but definitely making a statement.
Location & Getting Around
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally steps away from everything that matters in Manchester. The Northern Quarter’s independent shops and bars are just a short walk north, while the main shopping areas around Market Street are practically on your doorstep. You can walk to the Manchester Arena in about ten minutes, and if you’re catching a train, Piccadilly Station is close enough that you won’t need to stress about timing. The tram stops are right there too, which makes getting around the wider city area pretty effortless.
The Room Experience
Here’s where The Alan really shines — the beds are genuinely fantastic. I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you actually feel refreshed in the morning, not just less tired. Each room has this modern but warm design that avoids feeling sterile or corporate. The bathrooms are well-designed with good water pressure, and there’s enough space to actually unpack your things properly. The soundproofing works well too, which is no small feat when you’re this central in a busy city.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here is actually impressive — they’ve got everything from a proper Full English to continental options, plus they really cater to different dietary needs with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free choices. It’s served buffet-style, so you can take your time and try different things. The restaurant area has a nice buzz in the morning without feeling rushed or chaotic, and the coffee is definitely above average for a hotel. The dining experience reflects the hotel’s commitment to quality throughout your stay.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets The Alan apart is how it balances being right in the thick of things without sacrificing comfort or quality. The staff seem to genuinely know Manchester well — they’ll point you toward the good curry houses on Rusholme’s Curry Mile or tell you which pubs actually have decent beer gardens. The whole place feels like it was designed by people who understand what travelers actually want: a great night’s sleep, a proper breakfast, and easy access to explore the city. Plus, there’s reliable parking nearby if you’re driving, which can be a real headache in central Manchester otherwise. It’s this attention to detail that keeps guests coming back.
To book hotel in Manchester for football finals, travelers lock in arena-view suites with private hospitality lounges.

The value for this hotel was excellent compared to the normal chains. The price was lower than comparable styles of hotel and the room standard was excellent . Breakfast was outstanding – made to order with a wide variety of different options as well as a small selection of pastries, bread and cereal to complement the cooked options.

I liked the room as it makes you feel like your to a degree abroad in a European style hotel with the exception of the winter coldness and the faculties were good.

Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by Harmony, whose friendliness and helpfulness stood out. She even provided us with a complimentary room upgrade, which was a delightful surprise. The room itself was beautiful and impeccably clean. Harmony took the time to explain all the facilities in great detail, ensuring we felt comfortable and well-informed.
The hotel's location is excellent, with a tram stop just around the corner and the train station only a 15-minute walk away. The city is beautiful, and our stay at this hotel made our visit even more enjoyable. We would definitely choose to stay here again!Aimee from Switzerland (9/10)
